DoT wants Monopoly in Intra-State Long Distance

Mobile, then The DoT wants to retain its monopoly in Intra-State Long Distance calls using BSNL network. For instance you want to make a call from Mangalore to Bangalore/Bengalooru using your Airtel Mobile. Airtel has to hand over the traffic to BSNL @ Mangalore to carry it to Bangalore. BSNL charges double the fees than what is prevailing in the market. BSNL charges 20Ps / Minute while Private Operators are willing to carry the traffic at less than 10 Ps / Minute.

Private Telecom Operators have registered their objections to end this monopoly because an amendment has already been passed but DoT is unwilling to implement the same. private Operators like Reliance Communications which is seeing a substantial fall in ARPU is desperate to end this mess. DoT or Government must only regulate and let the market discover the pricing.
