Hindustan Times – Migrating from Print to Internet

Times Group was the first to realize the growth of Internet and the influence it will have on the society and impact on its bottom line. Hindustan Times realized it only lately and is venturing into the Web world now. It already has DesiMartini a Web 2.0 company in its folio though that social network is not doing well and still struggling to take off.

Today HTMedia announced that their online version of newspaper[ HindustanTimes.com] has roughly 10 million page views / month. The company which launched Job Search site, Shine.com earlier this month now plans to launch verticals – Real Estate and Indian Matrimony [Shaadi]. Already we see HTClassifieds hosting Real Estate and Matrimony under it.

With merely 5% of the Indians having access to the Internet, it is still a long way that Internet becomes the main stream media in India.
